Haze, haze go away…
Yup, it’s official, this is the worse bout of haze ever hit Klang Valley. In fact, in Kuala Selangor and Port Klang, a state of ‘darurat jerebu‘ has been announced. Which basically means most offices and businesses will not be operational and people are encouraged to stay indoors. Schools around Klang Valley are closed until the weekend at least and one wonders how long the situation will last.

I watched Gol dan Gincu today, and I have to say, I enjoyed it tremendously. I mean the storyline is far from original and the acting could have been better, especially from the two leads, Fazura’s ‘Putri’ and Ashraf Sinclair’s ‘Eddy’, yet it is still highly entertaining fare. It’s a Malay movie for the ‘urban’ Malay. You know, the type who goes to college or speak a mixture of Malay and English. Of course, I’m not saying that you won’t enjoy the movie if you do not fall within this category, it’s just that ‘urban’ Malays will probably relate with the movie better. Oh and it’s Malaysian enough for non-Malays to enjoy it too (c.f Kuliah Cinta, KL Menjerit and all three Gerak Khas movies).
Just a word on Sassy Falak, who plays ‘Shasha’, the movie’s antogonis. I think nailed the ‘bitch queen’ act down to a pat, but still managing to inject enough humanity for us to actually feel for her. Sassy’s everywhere nowadays, from starring in Adam’s ‘Tak Tahu‘ music video, to hosting Beat TV as well as appearing on the cover of Galaxie. If she is serious about acting, then Gol dan Gincu is a very promising debut from her.
Oh and I had a pleasant suprise seeing AF2’s Zarina and Anding in the movie. They added that little bit more to the movie with their respective roles.
Rapid fire thoughts
- A name that comes up often these few days due to the haze; Datuk Seri Adenan Satem, our Natural Resources and Environment Minister. I have to admit I have never heard of him before this.
- Is it just me, or is ‘Gerhana Ska Cinta‘ the coolest band name you’ve ever heard?
- Mawi, the new darling of the media. He’s everywhere, for goodness sake!
